In his address to the nation during the end of the 42-day lockdown on Friday, 30th July 2021, President Yoweri Museveni among others allowed outdoor sports activities to resume but without spectators/fans and in adherence of SOPs meant to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Sports activities were banned 42 days ago as a Covid-19 preventive measure following the surge in positive cases and deaths then.
By the time sports activities were halted last month, local competitions in fraternities like football, golf, basketball, hockey, futsal were already happening but still under tight guidelines.
The above activities and others are expected to resume shortly after official communication from relevant authorities.
Summary of President Museveni’s address (informal missive)
*Curfew maintained at 7pm
*Boda bodas now allowed to move up to 6pm, with one passenger only and strictly following SOPs.
*Kikuubo to open but without kiosks and without roadside vending, to reduce congestion. Kikuubo should remain a wholesale trading centre.
*Malls and arcades can open with strict compliance to SOPs. Must have compliance officers, ventilation etc
*Burial attendees should not exceed 20.
*Weddings also 20 people only.
*Places of worship to remain closed for 60 days. Virtual prayers should be led by maximum of 10 people
*Sports can continue but no spectators. Testing of officials and players should be done 72 hours before event. Indoor sports like gym, pool table, remain closed.
*Concerts, gaming, betting, bars remain closed.
*Restaurants remain open.
*Salons can continue to work.
*Sauna and steam bath are super spreaders. Remain closed.
*Schools remain closed until sufficient vaccination of students 12 to 18 years is done. Learning can continue virtually. Safe opening of medical schools should be done.
*20% of workers to report.
*Private vehicles can move across districts with only 3 occupants.
*Movement in and out of Uganda will remain open. UPDF to manage screening at airport
*Cargo trucks can move.
*Public transport open at 50% capacity starting Monday 2 August. To be reviewed after 2 weeks.
*No air conditioning in all public transport
*Food markets remain open.
*Seasonal markets remain closed
