Rhinos Athletics Club under its Rhinos Rugby Football Club brand and Rotary Vijana Poa (meaning the Youth are okay) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) forming a partnership that will seek to address challenges facing youth, beyond just unemployment, unfulfilled dreams and the like.
The signing of the MoU that took place on Wednesday at Speke Resort, Munyonyo was done by Rotary Vijana Poa representative Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa (Bob) and Rhinos Rugby Football Club Chairperson Alex Kalimugogo who were all flanked by respective officials. The event also happened on the first day of the 96th Rotary District 9211 Conference and Assembly happening at the resort.
The MoU is valid for three years and is renewable but each party will meet the costs of what they have committed to do.
The MoU is set to lay a blue print for youth enterprise programs with rugby players (especially from Rhinos team) being one of the targets. This will be enabled through Rotary Vijana poa pitch nights, enterprise development and mindset change training, incubation centers as well as the internship and apprenticeship program.
“Today is an important day for Rhinos as a club and I thank all the people who have made this happen. I believe this partnership will benefit all the parties,” Rhinos Chairman Alex Kalimugogo told media adding that though the club intends to make the sport a main career option, the initiative is still very important to the athletes and all the youth.
Rotary Vijana Poa’s Robert Nsibirwa noted that the main aim of the partnership is to forge a way of tackling crucial issues affecting youth development especially in regards employment, livelihood sustainability and the like.
“The biggest challenge facing the youth is unemployment yet they have needs. They have to earn a living and if they don’t find work to do they resort to unsustainable methods of sustaining thier livelihoods including stealing,” Nsibirwa said.

“This program will enable the youth to sell their skills. What has been hindering the growth of the program is unawareness and we are glad that we got this platform,” Nsibirwa further said adding that Rhinos is a good brand to spearhead the project for sports promotes discipline and healthy living.
Using the structures of Rotary, Nsibirwa says they will recruit the supporters of the game (rugby) into the project so that they can further recruit more youth.
“We should ensure that young people are responsible in societies they live in. We look forward to a great partnership that will be of great use to the youth of this country,” Nsibirwa concluded.
Rhinos Athletics Club is a sports body comprising of rugby outfit Rhinos RFC and two basketball sides Charging Rhinos and Amazon Rhino.
