Sam Timbe: URA FC Coach is dead

Sam Timbe, the Head Coach of Uganda Premier League side Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC has died, the club announced on Saturday.

“We are saddened to inform you of the unfortunate passing of our esteemed Head Coach, Sam Timbe, this afternoon while en route to Nakasero Hospital for ICU, as referred by St Catherine Hospital. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the club social media missive read.

By press time, URA FC team was in camp at Standard Hotel, Kampala, preparing for the upcoming FUFA Super 8 cup semi-final match against KCCA FC, initially scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday at the MTN Omondi Stadium. However, the match has been postponed to a later date.

In his playing days, Timbe plied his trade with only one club – Coffee FC. He was part of the national team from 1978-1983 but was never capped.

As coach, he won league titles with SC Villa (2004), Atraco (2008) and Young Africans (2010/2011).

He’s also the only coach to win four Cecafa Cup titles with four different sides; SC Villa (2005), Police (2006), Atraco (2009) and Young Africans (2011). This makes him the most successful tactician in the tournament.

The sides he has handled include Coffee, Police, Lyantonde, UPDF, Mbale Heroes, She Kobs, Uganda Youth team (U-19), Simba FC, SC Villa, Uganda Cranes assist coach, Atraco (Rwanda) and Yanga (Tanzania).
