Sports Resumption: Uganda Hockey Issue Statement On Way Forward.

In his address to the Nation on 20th September 2020, the President of the Republic of
Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni eased the lockdown on sports but with a number of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The SOPs include;
– Participants must present Negative COVID19 Test Results not older than
72hours from the date of release.
– Participants must be tested every 14 days.
– Participants engaged in a tournament are quarantined within one location throughout the duration of the tournament.
– No spectators are allowed into competition venues.
Further, the National Council of Sports (NCS) on Friday 25th September engaged National Federations, Uganda Hockey Association inclusive on modalities of how to proceed with
the resumption. In this engagement, it was resolved that:

1. Federations submit to NCS a detailed plan of activities for approval not later
than 2nd October 2020. This plan should show a clear and detailed Compliance
plan to the SOP’s earlier spelt out in the President’s message.
2. NCS shall by 9th October 2020 communicate any and all activities approved to proceed and follow up to ensure compliance.
3. No sporting activity shall proceed without NCS approval.
According to Uganda Hockey, in light of these conditions, the association continues to engage Stakeholders on how to facilitate the smooth and swift resumption of hockey in adherence with all SOPs.

“Considering the timelines set out by NCS, all trainings, friendlies and other competitive hockey activities shall remain on hold until Uganda Hockey communicates
otherwise. Anyone who contravenes this shall be doing so at their own peril,” Uganda Hockey said via a statement signed by it’s executive.

Meanwhile, the association has now set sight on four new alternative products they will focus on once competitive play returns.

The four products are; Uganda Cup, East Africa Championships, Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers and online courses (including the recently concluded regional coaching and umpiring courses).
