Kitara FC made a strong start to their 2024/25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League campaign with a commanding 3-0 win over newly-promoted Lugazi FC on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
Jude Ssemugabi, fresh off his scoring debut for the Uganda Cranes, stole the show with two impressive goals that sent Kitara to the top of the league standings.
Kitara took the lead in the 25th minute when Frank Tumwesigye powered in a shot after beating his marker inside the box.
Things got worse for Lugazi as they were reduced to 10 men when Rogers Atube received his second yellow card just before halftime.
Ssemugabi then took control of the game, netting his first goal three minutes before the break. He combined with teammate Omedi, finishing a brilliant move to make it 2-0.
His second came in the 64th minute after controlling the ball with his chest and firing it into the net for a final score of 3-0.
Lugazi’s coach, Sadick Sempigi, will now regroup his team as they prepare for their next fixture after a tough introduction to top-flight football.
