Final: Tanzania 1-0 Kenya

Third place: Sudan 0-1 Eritrea

Awards:

Best Goalkeeper: Brian Okoth Bwire (Kenya)

Fair Play Trophy: Uganda Hippos

The 2019 CECAFA U20 Boys Challenge Cup successfully climaxed on Saturday with Tanzania being crowned champions.

  Tanzania beat rivals Kenya 1-0 in the final played at the Fufa technical center, Njeru. Kenya defender John Otieno Onyango headed into his net from Israel Patrick Mwenda free kick towards the break.

There were no other goals in the match despite attempts by both sides in an end-to-end affair. The early third place play-off, Eritrea beat Sudan 1-0 courtesy of Biniam Mengsteab superb finish in the 67th minute.

Champions Tanzania, runners Kenya and second runners up Eritrea were awarded with trophy and Gold medals, Bronze medals and Silver medals respectively. Tanzania’s wonder kid Pius Kelvin John was named the tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Top Scorer after finishing top of scorers with 7 Goals.

In the other awards, Kenya’s Brian Okoth Bwire was named best goalkeeper while Uganda won the fair play accolade which was handed to the FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edgar Watson.

FUFA officials led by the Acting President Justus Mugisha, CECAFA delegation and members of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) graced the final. The two-week completion was revived this year after being last played in 2010. Eritrea hosted the last edition and this year’s hosts Uganda were the winners.

Eleven (11) countries took part and ere grouped into three groups with Pece stadium, Gulu and the FUFA technical center, Njeru as the two host venues.

Uganda, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Burundi, Somalia and South Sudan are the countries that took part. Uganda was knocked out by eventual champions Tanzania after a 4-2 quarterfinal defeat.
