Uganda U17 Women’s National Football Team Coach Sheryl Botes Ulanda has announced the trimming of the squad to 25 players as preparations for the CAF FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Namibia intensify.
Initially, 39 players had been summoned and entered residential camp at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Wednesday.
“This morning we released some players, and we are left with 25 players as we continue with our preparations ahead of the games against Namibia,” Coach Botes confirmed.
She expressed satisfaction with the team’s fitness levels and the players’ adherence to instructions.
“The players have really been positive since we arrived here. We are going to keep organizing video sessions to explain to them what we want them to do. They know what is at stake and what we are up against. We are constantly giving them confidence and belief that beating Namibia is attainable and that it is a collective effort, not individual,” she said.
Adding, “The girls look good and positive. I’m happy that even from the sessions we’ve had so far, good questions from them came up. You can see they’re eager to learn and understand what we want them to do against Namibia.”
The first leg against Namibia will be played next week on Thursday, January 16, at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, with the return leg three days later at the same venue. The winner on aggregate will face Kenya in the second qualification phase.
