The UICT Grounds in Nakawa were a buzz with action over the weekend as over 2,000 Old Girls of Trinity College Nabbingo and friends attended the third annual TRICONA Sports Gala.

The highly anticipated event which recently onboarded Guinness as its beverage sponsor exceeded expectations, bringing together former students for a day of competitive sports, entertainment, and rekindled friendships.

Old Girls of the school, alongside invited alumni from other prominent schools like Namilyango, Ntare, Mwiri, SMACK, SHACK and many more were engaged in a full day of sports activities.

Football, netball, volleyball, dodgeball, and ludo were among the main events as healthy competition was exhibited.

St. Mary’s College Kisubi, playing under Teresa House, emerged victorious in the football games, while Kiira College Butiki and Alix House took home the volleyball trophy.

“This year’s event was bigger, louder, and more fun than ever, proving once again that these ladies and the gentlemen know how to blend competition with a good time,” said Bridgette Kigongo Nambirige, Publicity Secretary for TRICONA.

“I’m incredibly proud of how our TRICONA community continues to come together, and the networking that happens here is invaluable. We are also deeply grateful to our sponsors, especially Guinness, who showed up in a big way to bring a unique experience for all the Old Girls,” she added.

As the beverage sponsor, Guinness played a significant role in elevating the day’s experience. The brand showed up not only to create extraordinary moments but to also invite attendees to register for the upcoming Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon.

“Sports are a universal language—a way to engage, have fun, and inspire each other to lead healthier lifestyles, which is why we’re proud to support TRICONA. Today’s Sports Gala was the perfect opportunity to not only support the Old Girls but also to invite them to join us for the upcoming Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon,” said Patience Aguti, Project Manager, UBL.

A special moment during the gala was when Eduwado Kayondo, the original composer of the beloved song Omwana wa Nabbingo, took to the stage. His performance was a beautiful tribute to the Old Girls, celebrating the school’s legacy of empowering young women to become women of substance.

The evening reached its peak with a thrilling performance by Karole Kasita, who rocked the stage for 40 minutes with hits like Chekecha, Balance, Tubiddemu, Tetuzina, and more, leaving the crowd in high spirits.

The TRICONA sports gala continues to be a part of a big celebration of the Old Girls’ sisterhood and the strong connections they have maintained beyond the school walls and created over the years.
