Tusker Lite unveils 2025 Mt. Rwenzori Marathon kit, ignites excitement for Uganda’s biggest race

With just two weeks to go, the excitement surrounding the 2025 Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon is reaching new heights. Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), through its premium low-carb brand Tusker Lite, today unveiled the official race kit for this year’s highly anticipated edition.

Held at the UBL headquarters in Port Bell, Luzira, the unveiling event brought together media, fitness influencers and key partners, all united in anticipation of one of East Africa’s most iconic runs.

The 2025 race kit has been carefully curated to blend performance, style, and symbolism. This year’s kit has received exciting upgrades designed to reflect the race’s character and deeper purpose. The official race shirt features a striking white motif, symbolising the majestic Rwenzori glaciers, which are rapidly eroding due to climate change. The design choice is a conscious reminder of the urgent need to protect this natural wonder.

In line with Tusker Lite’s energy and style, the shirts also maintain the bold green hues that runners have come to love. New additions to the race kit include a technical running cap designed to offer sun protection during the intense Kasese heat, a multi-functional running belt for carrying essentials like water, energy gels, or even a Tusker Lite and a drawstring bag to keep all race-day gear in one compact, easy-to-carry pack.

This year, finishers of the 42km race will receive gold medals with inscriptions of the equator at the back commemorating the world’s only marathon that starts directly on the Equator, while 21km participants will take home silver medals, each crafted to celebrate the resilience and achievement of every runner.

Now entering its fourth edition, the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, set for August 23, 2025, in Kasese, has evolved into a powerful story of adventure, resilience, and tourism development. First launched in 2022, the event was conceived to position the Rwenzori region as a premier destination for eco-tourism, adventure travel, and wellness.

Over the years, it has grown into a global spectacle, drawing participants from over 25 countries, including Kenya, the UAE, the UK, the US, Canada, and across the East African region.

Speaking at the kit unveiling, Catherine Ndungu, Marketing & Innovations Director at Uganda Breweries Limited, emphasised the event’s wider impact:

“The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon is more than a run; it’s a celebration of courage, national pride, and shared ambition. As it grows in stature, it continues to inspire a new generation of goal-driven Ugandans while shining a global spotlight on Kasese and the Rwenzori region. We’re honoured to be part of this incredible journey that unites communities, businesses, and visitors through wellness, sport, and unforgettable experiences,” said Ndungu.

This year’s marathon introduces a diverse range of race categories, making it accessible to runners of all levels: 42km Full Marathon, 21km Half-Marathon, 10km Challenge Run and 5km “Here for the Vibes” Fun Run, ideal for first-timers, casual runners, and Tusker Lite fans looking for a more relaxed experience.

With over 6,000 runners expected, the 2025 event is poised to be the biggest and boldest yet.

The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon is organised by Equator Hikes and supported by multiple partners, including the Uganda Tourism Board, Standard Chartered Bank and KIA.

Online registration is ongoing via the official website: www.mtrwenzorimarathon.com
