Uganda women’s rugby XVs side Lady Rugby Cranes are aiming for victory against Zambia when they face-off in the opening game of the Rugby Africa (RA) Women’s Cup, Pool B later today at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

Kenya is the other team in this three-nation tournament which is scheduled for 25th October to 2nd November 2022.

The tournament is the first phase of the Women’s XVs Rugby World Cup Qualifiers for Africa. There are 4 pools in Africa being played in different Countries. Only the Pool winners will qualify for the next round of the qualifiers to be played in 2023.

Lady Rugby Cranes Coach Leonard Lubambula says that every game counts but the home side is ready to tackle down Zambia.

“We have all been en waiting for this moment. The girls are excited to face Zambia and are all expecting victory. I believe that we shall be victorious,” Lubambula said.

“Zambia has solid ball carriers but we are a better team in terms of exposure and women’s growth in rugby. But we will not underestimate any team, we will take on every game at a time,” Lubambula added.

Lady Rugby Cranes who are sponsored by Nile Special have eight uncapped players but Coach Lubambula says that the youngsters have been very exciting in training and he’s looking forward to seeing them on the big stage.
