Uganda Cubs have made more history by ejecting Senegal in the round of 32 at the on-going FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025 in Doha, Qatar.

The CECAFA champions scored through Abubakar Walusimbi after 14 minutes as they eliminated Senegal’s Young Lions of Teranga.

The midfielder unleashed a hard shot from outside the box that beat the Senegal goalkeeper Vincent Gomis to send the Ugandan crowd at the Aspire Zone Complex cheering.

Senegal continued to dominate play and attacking in numbers, but the Ugandan goalkeeper Edrisah Waibi put up a man of the match performance blocking several shots at goal.

After recess the Senegal side came close again through Babacar Bousso and Bakary Sonko, but the Uganda Cubs defending department stood firm.

With the cloak ticking 10 minutes to the end Senegal though they had equalized, but the goal was not allowed after VAR review.

It was all celebration after the final whistle after the Ugandan team ejected the African U-17 champions. In the last Group K match against 2001 champions France, Uganda carried the day 1-0.

“First I am very happy that we beat a tough side like Senegal. But I must credit our goalkeeper who kept us in the game because he was very outstanding. The other players also kept to the instructions,” said Uganda’s head Coach Brian Ssenyondo after the match.

He made it clear that they will not get too excited, we will only enjoy the moment, and later focus on the next game.

While it is Uganda’s first appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, this was Senegal’s third. Uganda will now wait to face the winner between Germany and Burkina Faso in the Group of 16.
