Uganda Cubs ready for fierce derby as AFCON U17 quest begins against Tanzania

The Uganda U17 Boys National Team, known as the Cubs, is set to begin their campaign for a coveted AFCON U17 qualification slot with a high-stakes encounter against arch-rivals Tanzania.

The match, scheduled for 4 PM on Sunday, December 15, 2024, will take place at the newly refurbished Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo, marking the team’s first step toward the ultimate dream of representing Uganda at the FIFA U17 World Cup.

Coach Brian Ssenyondo expressed confidence in his squad ahead of the crucial game, stating, “We know how heavy the tournament is, but we come ready to face it off with any opponent because the final goal is playing at the U17 World Cup. Tomorrow’s game against Tanzania is our first step into our dream, so we will fight for victory.”

Rigorous Preparations and Final Squad

The Cubs have undergone extensive preparations leading up to the regional tournament. The coaching team has focused on assembling a squad that combines tactical discipline, technical skill, and physical fitness.

The 20-man squad reflects depth and versatility, with players selected to shine across all positions:

Goalkeepers: Adrian Mukwanga, Edrisah Waibi, Lukyamuzi Ashraf
Defenders: Musaazi Marvin, Sengooba Hamuza, Torach Elvis, Oyirwoth Steven, Oyirwoth Pius, Mubiru Travor
Midfielders: Kabiito Marvin, Jjara Brain, Walusimbi Abubakali, Magala Isima Mulala, Ogema Thomas
Forwards: Nkoola Arafat, Bogere James, Richard Okello, Simon Wanyama, Magogo Shakur Lucky Baggio, Bagenda Enock
