The Uganda U-17 Men’s National Team, the Uganda Cubs, have begun their international preparations ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 by facing Venezuela in their first friendly match at the U-17 Dubai Youth Challenge.

Arriving safely in Dubai on Tuesday night, the team settled into camp with high spirits and readiness for the crucial pre-tournament series. This series, which also includes matches against Panama and Paraguay, offers the Cubs a vital chance to test their tactics, mental toughness, and team chemistry against competitive international squads.

Head Coach Brian Ssenyondo emphasized the importance of the challenge ahead, particularly as Uganda’s World Cup group features South American sides Chile and Canada. “Playing Venezuela will surely test us for what we might face in the tournament,” he said, highlighting the strategic value of these friendlies.

The team is also benefiting from early acclimatization to environmental conditions similar to those expected in Qatar, a decision orchestrated by FUFA to ensure the players adapt well. Despite the warm and humid Dubai climate, the Cubs have shown resilience and determination during their training sessions.

Goalkeeper Adrian Mukwanga, who brings experience from the AFCON U-17 finals in Morocco, expressed confidence ahead of the game. “I will do my best to put in a good performance,” Mukwanga stated.

Coach Ssenyondo praised FUFA’s support, acknowledging the federation’s role in facilitating the camp and helping the team prepare optimally for the global stage. The Dubai Youth Challenge is not only a proving ground but a stepping stone toward the Cubs’ quest for success at the World Cup this November.
