The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of CHAN 2024 has announced that Ugandan football fans will enjoy free entry to the third-place playoff between Sudan and Senegal, set for Friday, August 29, 2025, at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Speaking at the Uganda Media Centre, Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the LOC Communication and Signage Subcommittee, revealed that the committee had purchased all 28,000 tickets allocated for the match from CAF and will distribute them to fans at no cost.
“This is the way the LOC, led by Maama Janet Museveni, is saying ‘thank you’ to all football fans who have made our homeland proud during this historic co-hosting of CHAN 2024. You have made the experience both memorable and successful,” Dr. Mugimba said.
Tickets will be available exclusively through CAF’s official ticketing website. Fans are required to register and apply the promo code CHAN3RD to secure up to three tickets each. All tickets will carry the label “NOT FOR SALE” but will retain full CAF security features.
Dr. Mugimba emphasized that the 28,000 tickets are the only ones valid for the game and urged fans to avoid third-party distributors. CAF has also assured that arrangements are being made for supporters who purchased tickets before the free distribution system was introduced.
In addition to the football action, the event promises to be a cultural celebration. Performances from Ugandan artistes including Jose Chameleone, John Blaq, Elijah Kitaka, and Vinka will entertain fans from 5:00 p.m., an hour before kick-off, with festivities continuing after the medal ceremony.
Uganda’s gesture highlights the nation’s pride in co-hosting the biennial CHAN tournament for the first time, alongside Tanzania and Kenya. Tanzania hosted the opening match, Uganda will stage the playoff, and Kenya will host the grand finale on Saturday, August 30, at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
“We encourage all fans to go to the CAF website, get your free ticket, and come to Namboole tomorrow for the third-place playoff. Let us make it a memorable football and cultural experience as CHAN 2024 draws to a close in Uganda,” Dr. Mugimba added.
Kick-off for the playoff is set for 6:00 p.m., with gates opening early to accommodate fans and pre-match entertainment.
