The Uganda women’s national basketball team, the Gazelles, will step up their preparations for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket with an intensive training camp in Egypt starting this week.
The team is scheduled to fly out to Cairo on Friday, 11th July, where they will engage in three friendly games against Egypt, Rwanda, and Cameroon from 12th to 15th July. All matches will be played at the Mostapha Sports Halls in Cairo, designed to boost the team’s competitiveness ahead of the continental showdown.
After the friendlies, the Gazelles will shift base to Alexandria for a focused training camp running from 15th to 24th July. The second leg of the camp will concentrate on tactical refinement and building team cohesion as the squad finalizes preparations for the tournament.
On 24th July, the Gazelles will leave Alexandria for Abidjan, Ivory Coast, where the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 officially tips off on 26th July.
Before their departure, Ugandan fans will get a final opportunity to rally behind the team during an open practice session on Thursday, 10th July at 9:00 AM at Lugogo Indoor Arena. The session will be open to the public, offering supporters a chance to interact with the players and send them off in high spirits.
The Gazelles will be aiming to make a strong impression at the AfroBasket, building on their recent strides in international women’s basketball.
