Abu Dhabi [UAE],: Uganda’s Victoria Pearls significantly underperformed in their debut match of the Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers, failing to meet their expected standards against Scotland on Thursday night.
Scotland, opting to bat first against Uganda, posted an imposing total of 161 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs. Spearheaded by a resilient, unbeaten partnership of 95 runs for the fourth wicket between Sasika Horley and Ailsa Lister, Scotland showcased their batting prowess.
Horley’s composed 61 off 52 deliveries, embellished with seven boundaries, set the stage, while Lister’s explosive 55 off 34 balls propelled Scotland’s charge in the final overs.
Darcey Carter’s brisk 24 off 16 deliveries laid the foundation for Scotland’s innings, leaving Uganda’s bowlers struggling to contain the onslaught. In response, Uganda faltered as Slater’s exceptional five-wicket haul for 17 runs, complemented by Abtaha Maqsood’s disciplined bowling with figures of 3 for 10, left the opposition reeling. With wickets falling at regular intervals,
Uganda’s innings unraveled swiftly, culminating in their dismissal for a mere 52 runs in 12.2 overs. Phiona Kulume’s defiant 16 off 16 balls was a lone effort amidst the collapse.
In the group’s (Group A) other match, Sri Lanka emerged victorious over Thailand, setting the stage for an intriguing competition. With only the top two teams progressing to the semifinals, each match carries significant weight.
Uganda’s Victoria Pearls will enjoy a break on Friday before resuming their campaign on Sunday against the USA, poised to bounce back stronger.
