The Uganda Premier League returns with action-packed fixtures today, Wednesday, April 16, as traditional giants SC Villa, KCCA, and Express hit the road for crucial matchday 24 ties, while BUL FC look to extend their unbeaten run in the second round.
SC Villa, reigning champions, travel to Kakyeeka Stadium to face Mbarara City in a must-win clash for both sides. Villa, who sit 8th with 33 points, have only managed one win away this season — a 1-0 result against Soltilo Bright Stars. Their hosts, Mbarara City, are desperate to climb out of the relegation zone and currently sit 13th with 23 points.
In Mbale, seven-time champions Express FC visit bottom-placed Mbale Heroes in search of their first win in six games. The Red Eagles are buoyed by last week’s 2-2 draw with league leaders Vipers, a result that kept the title race wide open. Mbale Heroes, rooted at the bottom with 10 points, have struggled all season but remain tricky opponents at home.
Meanwhile, KCCA FC will be hoping to bounce back from two consecutive defeats when they face URA FC under the Nakivubo floodlights in a 7pm kickoff. The Kasasiro Boys, sixth on 34 points, were beaten by Kitara and BUL in their previous outings. URA, fourth with 39 points, are targeting a fourth straight victory, having lost the reverse fixture 2-0 in Lugogo.
At the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, BUL FC host Police FC. BUL, third with 42 points, are unbeaten in the second round and come off a vital 2-1 win against KCCA. Police, fresh from a 2-0 win over Mbarara City, sit 12th with 26 points and are eager to disrupt BUL’s momentum.
Elsewhere, UPDF and Maroons lock horns at Bombo Military Grounds in a battle between security forces. UPDF, 10th on 29 points, are not safe from relegation and will be eager to secure a crucial home win. Maroons, seventh with 34 points, aim to recover from a disappointing 3-3 draw against Wakiso Giants, where they let a 3-1 lead slip.
