The Uganda Premier League serves up its final round of matches before the AFCON break with three intriguing fixtures scheduled for Tuesday, December 16, as teams battle for crucial points at both ends of the table.
Table leaders KCCA FC headline the day’s action with a night encounter against struggling newcomers Buhimba United Saints FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. Kick-off is set for 8:00pm, and victory would see the Kasasiro Boys maintain top spot heading into the mid-season break.
KCCA, currently on 23 points, hold a slender two-point advantage over second-placed Vipers SC, who are in action on Wednesday. They come into the fixture as overwhelming favourites against a Buhimba side that sits third from bottom with 10 points and has failed to register a win in their last seven matches after a promising start to the season.
However, KCCA will be without several key players. Richard Anyama is suspended after a red card, while Charles Lukwago, Shafik Nana Kwikiriza and Ivan Ahimbisibwe are away on national duty with the Uganda Cranes in Morocco. Despite the absences, coach Abdallah Mubiru will rely on experienced campaigners such as Derrick Nsibambi and Said Mayanja to unlock the Hoima-based outfit.
Earlier in the day, attention shifts to Bombo Barracks Ground where UPDF FC host NEC FC in a fierce “forces derby” at 4:00pm. Both sides are desperate for a morale-boosting win, with NEC ninth on 11 points and UPDF just behind in 11th place with 10 points. A victory for either could provide a timely lift before the league recess.
At the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, BUL FC will be eager to halt a worrying slide when they take on an in-form Police FC, also at 4:00pm. BUL have lost four consecutive matches and sit on 10 points from 10 games, piling pressure on head coach Abbey Kikomeko. Police, fifth on the table with 18 points, know that a win would keep them within touching distance of leaders KCCA.
Matchday 11 continues on Wednesday with four fixtures, including a mouth-watering clash between Lugazi FC and Vipers SC, live on FUFA TV and Sanyuka Prime TV, and a primetime encounter between SC Villa and Calvary FC at Kadiba Stadium. The round concludes on Thursday as Entebbe UPPC FC host Kitara FC in Entebbe.
