Uganda Premier League: Police FC Vs Vipers SC

@St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende

Maintaining the status quo is what Police FC will be looking forward to when Abdallah Mubiru and his boys make a short trip to the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende on Friday.

The Cops, after matchday seven and with five wins bagged, top the Uganda Premier League (UPL) log with 16 points.

Hot on the heels is Vipers SC, Police FC Friday opponent, an opponent they have not beaten since 2017. They sit second with 15 points with the same number of games.

It is a big game, and rightfully so, Mubiru treats it as it ought to be.

“All games are very important to us. We don’t single out one, but they’re definitely big days and big games so we can call tomorrow’s a big game because we are playing champions.” Mubiru told the club website.

To overcome tomorrow’s challenge, Mubiru is banking on organization and alertness on the pitch over the 90 minutes.

“Much as we know we are playing against the champions, we respect them, they’re a very good team, very good players, very good technical team and financially they’re well off, what really matters is the way we are going to handle ourselves on the pitch.”

“Who wouldn’t feel proud to outcompete the champions? We are looking forward to outcompeting them.”

Police is relishing the league. They have scored 16 goals so far, three fewer than Vipers who are top of the scoring chart. On the other end, Police are the meanest side in the league having let in only 3 goals.

Mubiru praised his team saying; “I commend my team. The players are so committed to their job.”

The last time Police beat Vipers, Ben Ocen was one of the scorers, but the number 10 won’t make the trip as he’s still battling an injury. Frank Tumwesigye, Bashir Kabuye, Edward Kiryowa and Samuel Kayongo are all still sidelined while youngster Derrick Kakooza is away with the Uganda Hippos in Mauritania at the AFCON U20.

Victory tomorrow will see Police extend their lead at the top to four points.
