The Uganda Premier League (UPL) serves up two key fixtures today as KCCA and Kitara return to home action in matches that could influence the early title picture.
The main spotlight will be on the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, where KCCA host NEC under the floodlights at 8pm, while Kitara welcome Maroons earlier in the afternoon at The Royals Park in Hoima.
KCCA, currently level on 20 points with SC Villa at the top of the table, have a chance to open a three-point lead if they secure victory. They arrive for the Lugogo derby in confident mood after beating BUL 2–1, thanks to a late strike from Alex Iga.
Coaches Brian Ssenyondo and Jackson Magera, however, will be without forward Shafik Nana Kwikiriza and attacker Ivan Ahimbisibwe, both away in Morocco with the Uganda Cranes preparing for AFCON 2025. The responsibility for goals is expected to fall on Emmanuel Anyama and Derrick Nsibambi.
NEC come into the encounter after holding champions Vipers to a 1–1 draw in their previous outing.
With several former KCCA players in their ranks—including Mustafa Kizza, Benjamin Ochan, Muzamir Mutyaba and Paul Mucureezi—the visitors are expected to offer stern resistance in what promises to be a closely contested derby.
Earlier at 4pm, Kitara host Maroons at Butema’s Royals Park. Kitara, who have registered four wins in their last five league games, sit sixth with 16 points.
Victory would lift them to within a point of both Villa and KCCA. Maroons, currently on 12 points, will be looking to disrupt Kitara’s positive momentum.
