Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club (URA FC) will aim to improve its underwhelming form when they face third-placed Express FC under the lights at Nakivubo Stadium on Friday night.
The tax collectors have endured a challenging start to the 2024/2025 Uganda Premier League (UPL) campaign, sitting 9th on the table with 15 points after 11 matches.
They trail Express by four points, a gap they hope to narrow with a victory. However, URA’s track record at Nakivubo provides little comfort, having secured just one win at the venue this season.
Express FC, under coach Badru Kaddu, has been in red-hot form, going unbeaten in their last five matches.
They have scalped some of the league’s heavyweights, including NEC, SC Villa, and KCCA. With 19 points, the Red Eagles are firmly in the title race and could move within four points of leaders NEC FC with a win tonight.
URA coach Sam Timbe will be banking on his side’s defensive organization and counterattacking prowess to neutralize Express’ attacking threats.
The midfield battle will also be crucial, with URA looking to disrupt Express’ free-flowing style of play.
Earlier in the day, reigning champions SC Villa will host Police FC at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, in another critical match. SC Villa, currently in 8th place, will be desperate to return to winning ways after recent setbacks, including a 1-1 draw with Lugazi FC and a 2-1 loss to NEC FC.
The weekend will feature more thrilling fixtures as Vipers SC host BUL FC on Saturday at Kitende, while Wakiso Giants take on KCCA FC on Sunday.
