Defending champions SC Villa and high-flying Kitara FC will be seeking redemption as the Uganda Premier League (UPL) serves up crucial midweek fixtures under the floodlights.
SC Villa, currently 8th on the table with 30 points, welcome bottom-placed Mbale Heroes to Wankulukuku at 4pm. The Jogoos suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to the newly promoted side in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. With their title defense already looking mathematically impossible — trailing leaders Vipers by 22 points — Villa will be aiming to restore pride and secure a much-needed home win.
Mbale Heroes, languishing at the bottom with just 10 points, are in dire straits and appear destined for a swift return to the FUFA Big League unless they can string together an unlikely late-season surge.
In the headline night fixture under the Lugogo lights at 7pm, Kitara will be gunning for revenge against second-placed NEC FC. The Royals lost 2-1 to NEC in the first round when their form was patchy. Now rejuvenated and sitting fifth with 35 points, Kitara head into this clash full of confidence following their emphatic 4-0 demolition of KCCA.
NEC, meanwhile, are in the title hunt and trail Vipers by just four points. A double over Kitara would move them to within one point of the leaders, cranking up the pressure in the final stretch of the season.
Elsewhere, at Kavumba Recreation Grounds, Matia Lule begins his tenure as interim head coach of Police FC with a high-stakes clash against fellow strugglers Mbarara City at 4pm. Both teams are hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone with 23 points apiece, making this a proverbial six-pointer.
