As Uganda Premier League (UPL) match day ten concludes today, the pressure mounts on Vipers SC and KCCA FC to deliver victories in their respective games to stay in the title hunt.
KCCA FC, sitting third on the table with 18 points, are four points adrift of new leaders NEC FC. The Kasasiro face an uphill task against Lugazi FC at Najjembe at 4:00 PM.
Lugazi, a recently promoted side, are proving resilient with an unbeaten streak of five matches and an impressive four consecutive clean sheets.
KCCA FC, still reeling from a 1-0 loss to NEC, will be eager to bounce back. They may have Derrick Nsibambi, Julius Poloto, and Gabi returning from injuries, providing a much-needed boost. For Lugazi, Richard Ayiko could start against his former club, though they will miss the services of injured Rogers Atube. This will be the first competitive encounter between the two sides.
Later at 7:00 PM, second-placed Vipers SC host Kitara FC in a high-stakes clash at Kitende. The Venoms are unbeaten in their last eight matches, recovering well after an opening-day 3-1 loss to NEC. A win today would see them leapfrog NEC to reclaim the top spot, regardless of KCCA’s result.
Despite being bottom of the table with just seven points, Kitara FC head into this match with renewed confidence following a resounding 4-0 victory over UPDF FC, their first win in seven matches. However, history favors Vipers, who have dominated Kitara in their last four league encounters.
The league table remains tight, and today’s results could prove pivotal in shaping the title race.
