The StarTimes Uganda Premier League enters match day two on Thursday, featuring three highly anticipated fixtures. The league action promises excitement as Kitara hosts NEC, UPDF battles Lugazi, and Vipers clash with Express.
At Butema Grounds in Hoima, Kitara FC, currently leading the table, will take on NEC in an early-season top-of-the-table showdown. Both teams come into the fixture with victories in their opening games. Kitara claimed a comfortable 3-0 away win against Lugazi, while NEC shocked title contenders Vipers with a 3-1 win at Lugogo.
Last season, the two teams split their encounters, with Kitara winning at home in Masindi and NEC taking the reverse fixture at Lugogo. The rivalry is heightened by Kitara’s Uganda Cup triumph last season at NEC’s expense.
Meanwhile, at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, Vipers SC will be looking to bounce back after their opening-day defeat as they host Express FC in the 7 pm fixture. The pressure is on Vipers’ head coach Nikola Kavazovic, whose job could be in jeopardy if the team fails to deliver a win. Express, coming off a 2-1 victory against Mbale Heroes, will be aiming to build on their solid start.
Elsewhere, UPDF and Lugazi will meet at Bombo Military Grounds, with both sides eager to secure their first wins of the season. UPDF shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Maroons, while Lugazi will be looking to recover from a heavy 3-0 defeat against Kitara.
With the league still in its early stages, all eyes will be on Thursday’s matchups as teams fight to establish their position on the table.
