For the first time Uganda has hosted the Victoria Cup at Uganda Golf Club (UGC), Kitante with the fourth edition of the annual match play tournament attracting the best amateur players between Kenya and Uganda.

Action did tee off on Thursday and climax this Saturday. The flag raising ceremony was held on Wednesday evening at UGC with players, Kenya High Commissioner to Uganda – H.E Kiema Kilonzo, KCB Managing Director – Edgar Byamah, Kenya Golf Union Chairperson – Anthony Murage, Uganda Golf Union President – Innocent Kihika, Africa Golf Federation President – Johnson Omollo and other guests in attendance. Away from golf action, sports tourism is expected be achieved as fans cross borders to support their teams which promotes tourism, according to H.E Kiema Kilonzo whilst lauding the Uganda Open Golf tour launched by Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) prior to the main championship in August.

Kilonzo said that sponsors of various golf events should always consider the aspect of tourism for both Kenya and Uganda. In Kenya, the KCB Karen Masters, Kenya Open, Inter County Challenge and the like have been turned into tourism avenues where by golfers get opportunity to savor Kenyan wildlife and natural sites.

Kihika noted that some of the players who played in this event have now turned pro and most of them are youth which ensures a bright future of golf. Kenya have won the previous three editions and Uganda wants to stop the dominance at this fourth edition sponsored by KCB bank.
