In a riveting clash, Uganda women’s national cricket team, Victoria Pearls emerged victorious against Rwanda with a convincing 30-run win in a group stage clash at the African Games currently under way in Accra, Ghana.
The thrilling encounter unfolded on Sunday as Uganda posted a commendable total of 106/2, showcasing their batting prowess, while Rwanda faced a challenging task and managed to muster only 76/8 in response. The Ugandan team’s impressive performance both with the bat and in the field secured their triumph, leaving Rwanda trailing by 30 runs in this gripping match.

The match bowled off with Rwanda winning the toss and opting to field, a decision that didn’t affect the Victoria Pearls as their openers set a solid foundation. Gloria Obukor (21 runs) and Immaculate Nakisiyu (57 runs, not out) exhibited remarkable partnership, steering the team to an impressive total. Their disciplined batting and strategic shot selection posed a significant challenge for the Rwandan bowlers.
Stephanie Nampiina (15 off 19) became the other wicket lost by the Victoria Pearls when she was bowled by Henriette Theresa Ishimwe. Earlier, Ishimwe had caught Obukor following Alice Ikuzwe’s delivery. Uganda’s Rita Musamali (1 off 1) remained unbeaten at the crease.
Rwanda’s number 3 batter, Alice Ikuzwe couldn’t help matters after she was bowled by Aweko in her third ball without a run to her name.
It was Marie Diane Bimenyimana (batter number 4) who stabilized matters for the Rwandan side. She managed a team high 28 runs off 39 balls, a tally that comprised of two boundaries. She was bowled by Immaculate Nakisiyu.
Belise Murekatete (10 runs) was the other Rwandan player to manage double figures. She was however caught by Sarah Walaza following Immaculate Nakisiyu’s delivery.
At the end of it all, Immaculate Nakisiyu showcased an outstanding all-around performance, earning her the well-deserved title of Player of the Match.
