Match Day 27 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League kicks off on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, with five thrilling encounters across the country. The standout clash of the day will see Wakiso Giants host Mbarara City at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in a high-stakes relegation six-pointer.
Wakiso Giants, currently 14th with 20 points, must secure a win to boost their slim survival hopes. A victory would not only put them level with Mbarara City (13th, 23 points) but also give them an edge in the head-to-head battle after the two sides played out a goalless draw in the reverse fixture in Kakyeeka.
Mbarara City begin life without head coach Livingstone Mbabazi and will be keen to start the post-Mbabazi era with a crucial result, but they face a hungry Wakiso side with everything to play for.
Just below Wakiso on the table, Soltilo Bright Stars (16th, 16 points) face UPDF in Bombo. While the army side are safe in 10th place with 33 points, they’ll be playing for pride and a stronger finish. Bright Stars, meanwhile, are desperate for a win and will also be hoping Wakiso don’t collect maximum points.
At Najjembe, URA FC take on Lugazi FC in a match with contrasting ambitions. URA, fourth on 43 points, are hoping to end a two-match winless run and consolidate their top-four standing. Lugazi, meanwhile, sit 11th on 31 points and need just a win to confirm safety in their debut top-flight season.
The evening fixture at Nakivubo pits Express FC against Kitara FC in a heated grudge match. Express are still smarting from a humiliating 7-0 loss to Kitara in the first round. Now in ninth place with 36 points, the Red Eagles are eager to restore pride and avenge that heavy defeat. Kitara, sixth with 38 points, are winless in their last four league outings, and coach Wasswa Bbosa will be eyeing a return to winning ways.
In Luzira, Maroons FC welcome Police FC for a derby between security forces. Maroons, eighth on the table, are targeting a season double after edging the reverse fixture 2-1 in Kavumba. Police, currently 12th with 30 points, still need points to avoid any late-season drama.
The action continues on Wednesday, May 7, with three more fixtures: SC Villa host KCCA at Wankulukuku, Vipers SC face Mbale Heroes at Kitende, and NEC take on BUL at Lugogo.
