Newly promoted side Wakiso Giants FC on Friday announced that Coach Ibrahim Kirya, together with entire technical team, left the club with Mbarara City’s Livingstone Mbabazi set to takeover the Head coach role.

Kirya led the Purple Sharks to the premier league automatically in the just concluded 2018/19 season, but lost 1-0 to another newly promoted Proline in the Big league final.

Mbabazi, who led the Ankole Lions to a fifth place finish in the Premier league last season, reportedly handed in his resignation to Mbarara City management on the same day Wakiso Giants announced Kirya’s departure.

“Ibrahim Kirya has left his role as Wakiso Giants head coach after his one year contract at the club expired this week. We would like to thank Kirya for his hard work and commitment over the past 12 months. He has been a joy to work with. Kirya and his technical team will be etched in the history of this great club forever. Wakiso Giants Football Club wishes Kirya and company all the best in their future endeavors,” partly read the statement, signed by club CEO Sula Kamoga.

Mbabazi is currently with the Uganda Cranes team in South Africa for Cosafa as Abdullah Mubiru assistant. The CAF license B coach, who previously managed Onduparaka FC and Kyetume respectively, through his representatives, addressed the resignation letter to Mbarara City CEO. Western Youth MP and Mbarara City chairman Hon.

Mwine Mpaka confirmed knowledge of Mbabazi resignation reports.

“I have heard the reports but he has a one-year contract with us. The contract is clear; it has a compensation clause to honor and has to pay or else bring his desired new club and we negotiate,” noted Mpaka, who expects no huge damage with the former Cranes play maker departure.
