Uganda has officially dispatched a 36-member motocross team to Zimbabwe for the prestigious FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations (MXOAN), with high hopes of improving on last year’s impressive second-place finish.
The send-off ceremony was held earlier today at the National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters in Lugogo. Top officials from the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), along with NCS representatives, presided over the event, urging the team to carry the national flag with pride.
Set to unfold this weekend (August 15-17) at the Don Brook Motocross Track in Harare, the continental event will host elite riders from motocross strongholds such as South Africa, Kenya, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, and Tanzania.
Uganda’s 2025 squad is anchored by a fresh generation of young talent, many of whom have dominated local circuits this season. Leading the charge is Gift Sebuguzi in the competitive MX125 class. His stellar form makes him a strong medal contender and a key figure in Uganda’s title chase.
The MX85 class promises fireworks with the Air Uganda-backed Katende brothers—Miguel and Jonathan—targeting top finishes. In MX65, Larry Sekamwa teams up with the ever-consistent Musedde brothers, while the MX50 category sees last year’s standout pairing with rising star Abigail Katende.
The women’s contingent, including Jamaima Makumbi, Faith Deedan, and Norah Akao, will represent Uganda in the MX65 Ladies class, further showcasing the growing depth of female talent in the sport. Veteran racers Rogers “Blaza SB4” Sebunya and JB Achal round out the squad in the Vets category, bringing experience and grit.
Absent this year is former MX2 winner Stav Orland, now competing in the USA, but the team remains optimistic. With several classes offering dual point-scoring opportunities, Uganda will need both strategic consistency and raw speed to outpace rivals.
While part of the team has already arrived in Harare, the remainder is set to travel over the next two days, all eyes fixed on securing Uganda’s place on the continental podium once more.
