Uganda’s top secondary school football teams are set to descend on Lira City for the highly anticipated 2026 National Boys Football Championship scheduled to run from May 10 to May 20, 2026.
The championship, which will feature 64 schools from across the country, is expected to produce thrilling action as traditional giants and emerging powerhouses compete for national glory.
Defending champions Buddo Secondary School head into the tournament full of confidence after winning the 2025 title in dramatic fashion. Buddo edged rivals St. Mary’s Secondary School Kitende in a tense penalty shoot-out during last year’s final held in Ngora.
Among the teams attracting attention is Bukedea Comprehensive School, who come into the competition as one of the most feared sides after conquering both the Elite Games and the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) championships last year.
Meanwhile, football giants St. Mary’s Secondary School Kitende will be eager to reclaim their dominance after going two years without lifting the national title, an unusual drought for one of Uganda’s most successful school football teams.
Tournament organisers confirmed that eight venues across Lira City will host the matches. The grounds include Lango College I, Dr. Obote I, Lira Town College, Lira P7 Grounds, Lira PTC, Lango College II, Dr. Obote II and Lango III.
Participating schools are expected to report on Sunday, May 10, while matches will officially kick off on Monday, May 11.
The group stage games will run from May 11 to May 14 before teams proceed to the knockout phase, including the Round of 32 and mandatory classification matches for eliminated sides.
The official opening ceremony of the championship is scheduled for May 12.
