The much-anticipated 21st edition of the Sky View Girls Schools Cricket Week has officially bowled off in Gulu City, marking a historic milestone as the tournament takes place in Northern Uganda for the first time.

Running from May 3 to May 10, the tournament brings together 16 top-performing girls’ schools from six cricket regions across the country. All matches will be played at the Northern Cricket Hub, with Gulu High School proudly serving as the official host.

Organized by the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA), this year’s edition continues the momentum built over the past two decades, showcasing talent, skill development, and the expanding footprint of girls’ cricket in Uganda.

“This is another opportunity to witness the cream of our future women cricketers in action. The increasing number of participating schools each year is a testament to the sport’s growing footprint,” said Davis Turinawe, UCA’s Development Manager.

Defending champions Light Secondary School from Soroti are back in the fray with hopes of retaining their title, having dethroned three-time champions Olila High School in a thrilling final last year. Powerhouse teams such as Jinja SS (eight-time champions) and Gayaza High School (four-time champions) are expected to be strong contenders.

The competition also features fast-rising teams like Sacred Hearts SS, who reached the semifinals on debut last year and now enjoy home support. Newcomers Mt St Henry’s Mukono High School join the fray, alongside returnees Nyakasura School, emphasizing the event’s nationwide appeal and inclusivity.

“Hosting this prestigious event marks a proud milestone for Gulu,” said Grace Mutyagaba, UCA’s Northern Region Development Officer. “We anticipate thrilling matches and the birth of new rivalries. Local volunteers will step up as scorers, umpires, and grounds staff — a hands-on involvement that strengthens the ecosystem across Northern Uganda.”

The tournament is poised to not only crown a new champion but also serve as a crucial platform for talent identification and development, inspiring a new generation of female cricketers and pushing the boundaries of cricket’s reach in Uganda.
