The Buganda Minister of Youth, Sports, and the Arts, Owek. Robert Serwanga Ssaalongo, has officially launched preparations for the highly anticipated 31st Kabaka’s Coronation Anniversary Golf Tournament. This event, to be held at the Uganda Golf Club, is a key part of the annual celebrations marking the coronation of the Kabaka of Buganda.

The tournament, organized by the Buganda Golfers Association in collaboration with the Kingdom of Buganda, has been a fixture of the celebration since 2014. This year’s event promises a week-long series of competitions catering to golfers of all ages and skill levels.

The tournament schedule is as follows:

  • Parents & Children Tournament: Sunday, July 21, 2024
  • Caddies Tournament: Monday, July 22, 2024
  • Professionals Tournament: Thursday, July 25 to Friday, July 26, 2024
  • Amateurs Tournament: Saturday, July 27, 2024

This event is not only a celebration but also a fundraising initiative, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting various causes within the Buganda Kingdom.

Owek. Robert Serwanga Ssaalongo has appointed a seven-member committee to ensure the successful organization of the tournament. The committee members are Mr. Sam Mubiru, Mr. David Sekitoleko, Mr. Emmanuel Wamala, Ms. Gertrude Kityo, Ms. Evah Magala, Mr. Paul Kaheru, and Mr. Hannington Musoke, the Kingdom’s Principal Sports Officer.

Expressing his gratitude and commitment, Sam Mubiru, the captain of Buganda Golfers Association (BUGA) and a committee member, said, “We are grateful to the Buganda Kingdom for appointing us on the committee for this golfing event. We pledge to do our best to make it a success and raise a good amount to contribute to the development of Buganda Kingdom and support the causes of the Kingdom.”

The tournament attracts numerous organizations, particularly from Buganda, and consistently fields over 180 golfers participating both in teams and individually. It remains a beloved event, reflecting the deep connection and support for the Buganda Kingdom within the community.
