The Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards for September 2024 brought together some of the most talented athletes, honoring their outstanding achievements in various sports disciplines.
Among the key winners was football star Herbert Asiimwe, whose remarkable performances on the field earned him the coveted award in the football category.
Herbert Asiimwe, the prolific striker for Wakiso Giants and Buweekula, was recognized for his impressive goal-scoring ability throughout September.
In three crucial StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches, Asiimwe found the back of the net three times, helping Wakiso Giants secure 7 points.
His contributions saw Wakiso Giants climb to 5th place on the league table heading into the international break.
His consistent form and attacking threat made him the standout performer, ahead of fellow nominees Said Mayanja and Enock Ssebagala.
In the boxing category, Herbert Matovu claimed the award after a dominating victory over Tanzania’s Kheri Mbaruku in the African Boxing Union Regional title fight.
Matovu secured the win in the very first round, showcasing his power and skill to become a champion on the continental stage.
His triumph has placed him among the top rising talents in Uganda’s boxing scene, and his performance in the ring earned him deserved recognition at the awards.
The other nominees for boxing were Ukasha Matovu and Owen Kibira, but Herbert Matovu’s commanding victory set him apart as the clear winner.
The woodball category saw Isaac Ariho emerge as the top performer after helping Uganda Prisons claim their third consecutive Woodball League trophy.
Ariho lost only one out of seven games in September, making crucial contributions in both singles and doubles.
His standout moments included a dominant win against Fred Turyakira of Prisons by a 7-0 scoreline and teaming up with Abednego Okello to beat KIU’s duo of Bruno Ssekidde and Timothy Suuna 5-1.
Ariho’s only defeat came in the doubles when he and Ladslaus Mudingotto were narrowly beaten 5-3 by Aloysious Ssenteza and Hillary Bukenya of the University of Kisubi.
His resilience and consistent form, including winning two deciders in key matches, helped secure the league title for Uganda Prisons.
The other nominees in woodball were Alfred Nsabimana and Joyce Nalubega, but Ariho’s overall performance gave him the edge.
