Makerere University Business School (MUBS) host Kampala University (KU) this Wednesday at Nakawa in the group stage of the Pepsi University Football League match day three.
Both teams have won the competition twice and are looking to make it a record three this season, but will first have to make it out of their tricky group where they are along with Uganda Christian University (UCU) and International University of East Africa (IUEA).
MUBS are top of the table with 4 points from 2 games and will be looking to maintain their position with coach Ayiekoh Charles saying that he is happy with how the team is performing so far.
“This season we are doing much better than last season and we simply need to maintain the momentum. We have been training hard and the players are better prepared for the games,” Ayiekoh said.
“This game against KU is going to be a tough one. They are a team with pedigree just like us; having been to the finals three times and lifted the trophy twice. So it’s not going to be an easy game. We shall need to be at our best,” Ayiekoh added.
Kampala University, who are yet to find their goal scoring boots this season have had a poor record at Nakawa, having lost thrice and drawn once in their previous four meetings. Coach Tumusiime Vincent will be looking to break that record this time round.
“MUBS has always been a tough team to play but I know we shall be able to get a good result against them.” Tumusiime said, adding that lack of goals this season is a burden on the whole team not just the strikers.
“Football has changed. In modern football everyone can score and so the responsibility is on everyone not just the strikers. The whole team needs to attack in unison and when an opportunity comes whether you are a midfielder or defender, you take the chance or assist,” he added.
In the other Group D game, UCU host IUEA at Mukono this Thursday and on Friday, KIU host Kumi University while Sunday, Kyambogo host Busitema.
