Ronald Rugumayo continued his remarkable run of form by winning his fifth consecutive professional title at the Pearl of Africa-Sunshine Development Tour (POA-SUNDEV) event, on Saturday, 19th September 2026, further underlining his dominance on the regional golf circuit.
The Ugandan once again took the lion’s share of the prize purse after producing another composed performance to finish at the top of the leaderboard.
Rugumayo’s latest victory extends a remarkable sequence that dates back to the Chairman’s Bell at Uganda Golf Club in mid-July, the last tournament in which he failed to win. On that occasion, he finished runner-up to Grace Kasango by a single stroke.
Playing alongside Nigeria’s Godwin Okoko and South Africa’s Slade Pickering in the final round, Rugumayo made an immediate statement by birdieing the opening hole, his favourite hole on the POA-SUNDEV Tour after three successive red scores there.
He continued to apply pressure and narrowly missed an eagle on the par-four fifth hole after an imaginative approach left him with a straightforward birdie opportunity.
The Uganda Open and MTN Pro Tees champion remained in control for most of the round despite sustained challenges from Okoko and Pickering. Three bogeys on the eighth, 10th and 17th holes did little to alter the outcome as Rugumayo maintained his grip on the tournament.
Okoko had an opportunity to secure outright second place on the final hole but missed an eagle putt, leaving him tied for second with Malawi’s Paul Adams. Adams carded the best round of the day, a six-under-par 66, to move into the joint runner-up position.
David Kamulindwa and Abraham Ainamani were the best-placed Ugandans behind Rugumayo, finishing tied for seventh.
Rugumayo will now turn his attention to the Rwanda Open in Kigali, where he will seek to build on his exceptional recent form. The tournament carries a $50,000 prize purse.
