The Chaapa League, powered by Guinness, is back for Season 11, promising a bigger and more vibrant experience for all the Mbarara High School alumni and their supporters.
‎
‎The new season was launched on Tuesday, February 24, at Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo, Kampala, by its key stakeholders.
‎
‎After a five-month off-season, the campaign is set to kick off this Saturday, February 28, at NEC Grounds in Bugolobi, with an expanded number of teams. Younger cohorts TY Sheldon and Ezekyenda are the new additions to the league, bringing the total number of teams to 20.
‎
‎According to Gideon Tumukunde, the league Vice Chairperson, the league has maintained key elements, including the ‘Road to the Kraal’ theme, the knockout format of play, as well as CSR undertakings linked to bettering the environment.
‎
‎“This year we will once again return to school for the finale. We still want to reconnect to our roots and inspire the new generation. Last year was really successful and we want to set the bar high this season. We have done a lot of preparation and we are ready to kick off the new season,” Tumukunde said.
‎
‎“The knockout format is to make the league more competitive. That’s a new challenge to all participating teams because every match counts and there is little room for error.
‎
‎We are going to continue on the CSR trajectory by supporting initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and community responsibility,” he added.
‎
‎League Chairman Kennedy Gumisiriza expressed pride in the partnerships they have managed to keep, notably Guinness, whose presence ensures the fans and players have a fun experience on each matchday.
‎
‎“Guinness has always fuelled our experiences with lively activations that keep everyone engaged. This partnership is a perfect match because Guinness is known globally for its ties with football. They have solidified our reputation as one of the key events among the old boys league outings,” he said.
‎
‎According to Denise Nazzinda, the Guinness Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries Limited, they are proud to once again partner with the competition as they embark on a second decade.
‎
‎“We are happy to see the league return this Saturday, and reaching its 11th season is a great milestone. That alone speaks to the passion, commitment, and unity of the Chaapa Old Boys.
‎
‎Guinness is proud to stand with the Chaapa Old Boys as a partner in this journey. We are here to elevate matchdays with the bold Guinness spirit that brings excitement, connection, and great vibes to every moment,” she said.
‎
Yobo Yobo are the title holders of the league after they beat Bulls Old Tymers 1-0 in the final last season.
