Uganda is set to host the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division Two Qualifier at the Entebbe Cricket Oval with participating teams already arriving ahead of the tournament scheduled for March 8 to March 14, 2026.
The competition will feature five nations Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique and Sierra Leone competing for two qualification places to advance to the next stage of the continental pathway.
The successful teams will progress to the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier that will be held later this year in Tanzania. That event will determine which African teams qualify for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027 to be jointly hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal.
Cricket Uganda officials say hosting the qualifier is an important step in strengthening the growth of women’s cricket across the continent.
Evelyn Kabongerwa Shinyekwa, Chief Executive Officer of Cricket Uganda and the Local Tournament Coordinator, said the event provides a platform for emerging young talent.
“We are honoured to welcome Africa’s future stars to Entebbe. Hosting this qualifier is not only a privilege but also a chance to showcase Uganda’s growing cricket culture,” Shinyekwa said.
“We believe this tournament will inspire more young girls to take up the sport and strengthen the pathway for women’s cricket across the continent.”
The tournament will follow a single round robin format with each team playing every other team once across a total of ten matches during the week long competition.
Teams arrived in Uganda on March 6. Practice sessions, captains’ briefings and the official photoshoot will take place on March 7 before the tournament begins.
Opening matches on March 8 will see Malawi face Cameroon at 10:00 AM while Kenya will take on Mozambique at 2:00 PM. Matches will continue throughout the week with rest days scheduled on March 10 and March 13.
All matches will be streamed live on the official Cricket Uganda YouTube channel allowing fans across the region and beyond to follow the action from Entebbe. Live scores, match reports and tournament updates will also be available on the International Cricket Council website.
