SC Villa and Express will renew their long-standing rivalry under the floodlights at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba on Saturday night (8pm) in one of the standout fixtures of the Uganda Premier League matchday.
The highly anticipated Kampala derby comes at a crucial stage of the season, with SC Villa keen to remain firmly in the title race while Express seek to end a worrying run of results.
Villa head into the night fixture sitting fourth on the table with 34 points, although they still have a game in hand following the abandoned match against Calvary in Midigo. A win under the lights at Kadiba would tighten their grip on the chasing pack and keep them within touching distance of the league leaders.
Express, on the other hand, are desperate for a turnaround in form. The Red Eagles are winless in their last five matches and currently lie 10th on the table with 19 points. Their most recent outing ended in a 1-1 draw with Maroons, extending a difficult spell that has seen them struggle to collect maximum points.
Despite their contrasting positions on the table, the derby is expected to produce a fiercely contested encounter, with both teams aware that bragging rights in Kampala are always at stake whenever the two sides meet.
Earlier in the day, league leaders Vipers will be aiming to strengthen their position at the top when they travel to Kamwenge to face Mbarara City at Rwamanja Stadium.
The defending champions currently lead the standings with 41 points, just one ahead of Kitara, who were held to a 1-1 draw by UPDF on Friday. Victory for Vipers would open up a four-point gap at the summit.
In the other fixtures scheduled for 4pm, Entebbe UPPC host URA at Fisheries Ground in Bugonga while Maroons welcome Buhimba United Saints at the Prisons Ground in Luzira.
