After 20 years, Enterprise Cup returns to Uganda Rugby stage

After more than two decades, the Enterprise Cup is making a celebrated return to Uganda’s rugby calendar, and the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) is committed to ensuring a strong and safe restart.

The URU has confirmed that Uganda-hosted quarterfinal fixtures will take place at Muteesa II Royal Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Saturday, 21 March 2026. The announcement has raised questions among supporters about venue familiarity, accessibility, security, and overall match-day experience.

This edition of the Enterprise Cup is being staged under a shared hosting arrangement with Kenya Rugby Union, with Uganda hosting its matches at a single venue. According to URU, this decision is driven by practicality, sustainability, and the need to give the competition a strong relaunch.

“At this stage, the competition does not yet have a dedicated sponsorship package. Consolidating the Uganda leg at one venue helps the Union manage costs, generate event revenue, and support participating Ugandan clubs, especially those managing cross-border travel,” the Union said in an official statement.

The choice of Wankulukuku also reflects a wider commitment to expanding rugby venues in Uganda at a time when traditional options are shrinking. URU emphasized its collaborative relationship with the Buganda Kingdom, noting the opportunity to introduce a serious rugby venue in a strategically important area for the sport’s future.

Security remains a top priority, with URU assuring fans that concerns regarding crowd control, stewarding, and overall match-day safety are being directly addressed. The Union cited previous experiences at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, where initial fan concerns were successfully managed to deliver high-quality rugby events, including a Uganda Cup final between Heathens RFC and Black Pirates RFC.

Clubs themselves are involved in planning and logistics. Heathens RFC Chairman Desire Derekford Mugumisa and Black Pirates Vice President James Byaruhanga are part of the Local Organising Committee, focusing on communication, fan experience, and event delivery.
