Uganda storms into CAF Schools Championship semi finals unbeaten after dominant group stage display

Uganda has advanced to the knockout stage of the CAF Schools Championship 2026 in emphatic fashion, finishing top of Group A without tasting defeat and underlining their credentials as serious title contenders in Harare, Zimbabwe. R

epresented by St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende, the East African side delivered a commanding group stage campaign, scoring ten goals and conceding just once across three matches.

The campaign began with a slightly nervy 1-1 draw against hosts Zimbabwe, a result that briefly raised questions about Uganda’s sharpness despite flashes of quality. However, any early uncertainty was quickly erased in their subsequent matches, as the team shifted into a higher gear with ruthless attacking displays and disciplined defending.

Uganda’s second outing saw them dismantle the Democratic Republic of Congo in a resounding 6-0 victory. Forward Owen Mukisa emerged as the standout performer, netting a hat trick in a match that showcased Uganda’s attacking depth and fluidity. He was ably supported by Musa Kironde, Ivan Kakinda, and Emmanuel Opio, each of whom found the back of the net to complete a dominant performance that sent a strong message to the rest of the tournament.

The momentum carried into their third group match against Morocco, where Uganda once again proved superior with a 3-0 win. Lucky Wanyama starred with a brace, while Mukisa continued his fine form by adding another goal to his tally. The victory secured Uganda seven points out of a possible nine, enough to finish as group leaders ahead of Morocco, who also progressed with six points.

Uganda’s head coach Hassan Zzungu expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance and their achievement of a key objective. He noted that finishing top of the group had been a primary target and emphasized the team’s focus on going all the way in the tournament. With confidence high and form on their side, Uganda now turns its attention to the semi finals, where they are set to face Benin, while Morocco will take on Senegal in the other last four clash.

Beyond the boys’ competition, the girls’ category has also produced its semi finalists, with defending champions Ghana joined by Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Zambia. Meanwhile, classification matches scheduled for April 8 will determine final rankings for teams finishing between fifth and eighth positions in both categories.
