Tunisia’s U20 rugby team is set to arrive in Uganda on 23 July 2026 for an intensive high-performance training camp and two international test matches against the Uganda U20 side as both teams step up preparations for the Rugby Africa U20 Barthés Trophy 2026.
The early arrival reflects Tunisia’s commitment to maximizing preparations ahead of Africa’s premier U20 rugby championship, which will be hosted in Kampala later this year.
The visit is part of the 2024 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Uganda Rugby Union and the Tunisian Rugby Federation, an agreement designed to strengthen technical cooperation, player development, and competitive exchange between the two unions.
During their stay, Tunisia and Uganda will play two test matches, with the first scheduled for 26 July, followed by a second encounter later in the week. The fixtures will provide both coaching teams with an opportunity to evaluate player combinations, refine tactics, and assess match readiness before the continental tournament.
Beyond the matches, the teams will participate in a joint high-performance training camp featuring shared training sessions, position-specific unit work, and match analysis. The programme is aimed at enhancing technical execution, tactical understanding, and overall tournament preparedness.
Speaking ahead of the team’s arrival, Sarah Adong, Chairperson of the 2026 Rugby Africa Barthés Trophy Local Organising Committee, welcomed the opportunity for Uganda’s junior side to test itself against quality international opposition.
“Tunisia’s visit is a major boost to our preparations. The two test matches will give our boys quality international exposure and help us assess where we stand before the Barthés Trophy.”
The Rugby Africa U20 Barthés Trophy 2026 will be staged at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, under the theme “The Road to Africa’s U20 Crown Begins.”
