Rugumayo cruises to seven-stroke victory in MTN Pro Tee second leg

Ronald Rugumayo continued his remarkable run of form with a commanding seven-stroke victory in the second leg of the MTN Pro Tee at Entebbe Club on Friday.

Fresh from his breakthrough triumph at the Uganda Pro Open, Rugumayo produced another dominant display, finishing the 72-hole tournament on 16-under-par 268 to claim his second title in as many weeks.

The Ugandan saved his best golf for the closing stages of the tournament. After opening with rounds of 70 and 71, Rugumayo exploded into contention with a course-record 63 in the third round, before closing with a 64 to seal the title.

His final two rounds were the lowest scores recorded at Entebbe Club, underlining the quality of his finish.

“It feels great to win here. I started off badly in the opening two rounds but worked out on my mental toughness,” Rugumayo said after his victory.

The win caps an exceptional fortnight for the Ugandan professional, who last week became the first Ugandan in 14 years to win the Uganda Pro Open.

Abraham Ainamani, winner of the inaugural MTN Pro Tee, finished second on nine-under-par 275, while Rodel Tadeo Gaita took third place at seven-under-par 277.

Grace Kasango was the leading player behind the top three, finishing fourth on four-under-par 280. Silver Opio completed the top five at one-under-par 283.

The second leg attracted 40 professionals, six amateurs and two lady professionals, competing for a total prize fund of Shs20 million.

With Rugumayo now building significant momentum, attention turns to the final event of the series. The MTN Pro Tee Grand Finale is scheduled for December, when the Uganda Professional Golfers Association will crown the overall Order of Merit winner.

The final event will carry an increased prize purse of Shs30 million, setting the stage for another major battle among Uganda’s leading professionals.

MTN Pro Tee Leg 2 — Top finishers
