One Female Team Left in Singleton Challenge Main Championship

After the quarter-finals over the weekend at the par-72 Entebbe Golf club ended with female pair of Doreen Mwesigye and Wendy Angudeyo being the first pair to be shown the exit, there is only one possibility of a female pair progressing to the semi-finals of the Singleton Match Play Challenge.

Doreen Mwesigye was without her partner Wendy Angudeyo as she battled the pair of Tim Mwanda/Suubi Kiwanuka to lose by two holes 2&1.

“I missed my partner due to an emergency but we would have won. We shall return stronger next year,” Mwesigye noted.

In the second match, male pairs; Andrew Atuhaire/Geoffrey Orach eliminated Raymond Mwesigye/Ibra Bagalana pair; 3&2.

The matches between Samuel Kato/Charles Odere and Martha Babirye/Maureen Okura plus that of Silver Rugambwa/Ashraf Bagalana and Robert Busingye/Richard Lutwama did not end and will be completed in mid-week.

Both matches were all square when they were called off due to darkness with only two holes to be played.

After the shocking exit of title holders Peace Kabasweke and Sheila Kesiime at the previous round, Bairye/Okura now have to defend the ladies legacy in this championship.

Their opponents; Kato/Odere ejected former champions and continue to vie for the top seat.

Singleton Whisky is the headline sponsor of the event while Rwand Air, Commercial Bank of Africa, DStv, HTC Hub, Pinnacle Security, Serena Hotels, Victoria Motors, Afrisafe, Ekspreso and Streeb Club are co-sponsors.

Last year, Kabasweka/Kesiime was awarded with an all-expense trip to the DP World Golf Tour Championship after they emerged Singleton Challenge champions.

The grand prize for the winning pair this year is a fully paid golfing trip to watch the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic, a series which has featured some of golf’s best players, including Tiger Woods and Henrik Stenson.

There will also be business class return air tickets for the first and second runner-up pairs, as well as winners of the subsidiary events in the men’s and ladies’ categories.

Other prizes include monthly subscription packages on DStv, treats at Serena Hotel, golf accessories and HTC goodies.
