The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) met some of the leading 29 African Free-to-Air (“FTA”) Broadcasters in Lomé, Togo, discussing plans for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023.

CAF reiterated its commitment to making African Football content accessible to Free-to-Air Broadcasters while trying to strike a balance in creating a healthy environment for PayTV broadcasters to also thrive.

The two-day workshop was hosted by CAF’s broadcast partner, New World TV who are current rights holders for the FTA media rights in Sub-Saharan Africa and also the PayTV rights in English and local languages.

beIN Sport are the rights holders in the MENA region, CANAL+ hold the PayTV French rights in Sub-Saharan Africa while IMG commercialise the rest of the world territories.

CAF TV Head Luxolo September outlined CAF’s TV plans for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 that include creating more content and access for the Broadcasters during the competition. CAF TV is introducing new innovations that will enhance the product. This week, CAF launched a Promo for competition for all the Rights Holders aimed at ensuring that Broadcasters in Africa receive quality build-up content.

TV and Radio remain the platforms to access Sport and Football in Africa – with Football owning over 60% of the market share in Africa.

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations is the single-biggest event staged on African soil that attracts over 600 million viewers globally.

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 will kick off on 13 January 2024.

CAF and its TV Rights Agencies are working hard to ensure that millions in Africa and Globally have access to Africa’s biggest event.
