In a thrilling semifinal showdown at the 13th African Games Cricket Tournament, Namibia emerged victorious against Uganda men’s national cricket team, Cricket Cranes, securing their spot in the final and dashing Uganda’s hopes for a gold medal. The match, held at the Achimota Complex, Accra, showcased a display of exceptional cricketing skills from both sides.
Batting first, Namibia posted a competitive total of 111/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Nikolaas Davin and Jan Balt contributed significantly with scores of 25 and 22 respectively. However, it was the bowling prowess of Juma Miyaji and Alpesh Ramjani from the Ugandan side that kept the pressure on, with impressive figures of 3/10 and 3/16 respectively.
In response, Uganda fought hard but fell short, managing to score 87/9 in their 20 overs. Roger Mukasa was the standout performer for Uganda, scoring 36 runs off 43 deliveries, while Dinesh Nakrani chipped in with a crucial 15 off 20 balls. The Namibian bowling attack, led by Handre Klazinga’s stellar performance of 4/19, proved to be too strong for Uganda. Ben Shikongo also contributed with figures of 2/12, further bolstering Namibia’s dominant display.
Handre Klazinga was rightfully awarded the Player of the Match for his exceptional bowling performance, which played a pivotal role in Namibia’s victory.
Despite the setback, Uganda still has a chance to clinch a medal as they gear up to face either Kenya in the Bronze Medal Match scheduled for Saturday at midday at the Achimota Complex. Kenya lost to Zimbabwe by 70 runs in the other semifinal clash.
