Albeit facing financial constraints in the build up to the FIBA AfroBasket finals, Silverbacks (Uganda men’s national basketball team) Head Coach George Galanopoulos says that his side will give their all when they face former champions Senegal in their opener today, Wednesday, 25th August 2021 at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda.

Silverbacks who qualified for AfroBasket in July are seeded in Group D with Senegal, Cameroon and South Sudan.

Uganda who will tip-off their campaign against Senegal this Wednesday will later take on Cameroon on 27th August and South Sudan on 29th August at group stage level. The tournament proper tipped off on Tuesday, 23rd August.

For Galanopoulos, the Silverbacks tactician says that his charges have been upbeat in the bubble and will put in a good shift in Kigali.

“There’s been a positive energy within the group (silverbacks) ever since we qualified…the players enjoy being around each other and I believe they will triumph against Senegal” Galanopoulos told FUBA media.

“We can achieve as much as we want…our fate is within our control and we gonna operate that way. We gonna work as hard as we can,” Galanopoulos added.
