Uganda’s boxing is gradually getting resurrected under the current leadership of Moses Muhangi following years of administration chaos; and more international opportunities are coming to the local fraternity. In the latest, Uganda boxing federation (UBF) President Muhangi together with referees and judges commission head Antonio Stephen Aciga have been assigned duties at next month’s All Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco by the international boxing body (AIBA).

Muhangi was appointed as an AIBA International technical official (ITO) while AIBA three-star judge Aciga will be part of the referees and judges in Morocco.

The All Africa Games boxing is organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) through the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) but AIBA provides the technical persons.

“It is a great honor for me to be at my first international championship as an ITO appointed by AIBA. As UBF President, I will try hard to attract more international courses so that we have more human resource appointed at such international championships to import more technical expertise,” noted Muhangi, who successfully completed the AIBA-ITO Course in April this year in Bangkok, Thailand.

Aciga

This is Aciga’s fourth three-star championship that he is handling after the World women youth championship (India), 2018 Africa Youth men and women championship in Morocco and the the 2018 AIBA Youth World boxing championships in Hungarian.

After the All Africa Games where the Bombers will also take part,  Aciga will head to Russia where he will be part of the referees and judges at AIBA men world boxing world games due September in Russia.

Meanwhile, UBF will hold a referees and Judges AIBA star 1 course from July 31 to August 8 in Lugogo. The participants will have their practical sessions during the 2019 national novice championship due August 1-7 at Kira road police play grounds, Kamwokya.

The referees and judges AIBA star 1 course comes after the conclusion of AIBA star 1 coaching course on Monday where 25 participating coaches await for AIBA certification upon passing exams.
