Event: Singleton Match Play Challenge, Season 6 Semifinals
Date: 11th June 2022
Venue: Entebbe Golf Club

The finalists for the main event of Season 6 of the Singleton Match Play Challenge will be discovered after the semi finals are held on Saturday, 11th June 2022 at Entebbe Club’s par-71 lakeside golf course.

This year’s edition of the Singleton Match Play Challenge will get a whole new winning pair after previous successful teams got eliminated in the process and couldn’t make it to this weekend’s do, a testimony of the competitiveness of the monthly tournament.

The matchups for the Saturday round (semifinals) are; Charles Kagombe/Edrae Kagombe vs Patrick Ndase/Philemon Akatuhurira and Joram Tumwine/Julius Borore vs Brian Cable/James O’Sullivan

All eyes will be on the two matches of the main event and the teams can’t afford to slip at this stage when the title which comes with prizes is now at their grasp. It’s all or nothing for the main event pairs.

Senior golfing couple Edrea Kagombe and Charles Kagombe are the surprise pair in the semis and their story of success in this year’s edition has been unique, characterized by stunner displays as well as upsetting much familiar teams.

In the quarter finals held last month, ‘The Kagombes’ ejected out the then favorites and much popular pair of Moses Ssebugwawo/Charles Odere after beating them 3&1. They had beaten Uganda Golf Union President Moses Matsiko and his golfing partner Ashvin Kanana off 6/5 in the third round held about two month ago.

This weekend, ‘The Kagombes’ who are the only mixed pair in the competition will come up against an all-male team of Patrick Ndase/Philemon Akatuhurira hoping to stage an upset and be the ones smiling at the 18th hole.

Last time out, Ndase and Akatuhurira beat William Bizibu/Alex Kazenga 6&4 and will equally want to make it to the final when the semis tee-off this Saturday.

The semifinal matchup between Joram Tumwine/Julius Borore vs Brian Cable/James O’Sullivan will equally be exciting as both teams will put their best foot forward in pursuit for a slot in the final round of the competition.

In the lasts month’s quarters, Tumwine and Borore beat an all-female team of Patricia Nakasi/Berna Musanabera 2&1 whilst Cable and O’Sullivan beat Lony Akena/Geoffrey Odur 2&1.

However, the subsidiary category of the event will also be held on the same day as it has always been.

Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) through their Singleton Whiskey brand is the tournament lead sponsor. Its partners are; RwandAir, DSTV, NCBA, hTC and Riders Lounge Entebbe.
