Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) President Sarah Babirye Kityo has fallen from the frying pan to fire in a spell of less than one month following recent developments involving her and various parties.

Babirye was on Monday, April 15th 2023 remanded to Luzira Prison by Buganda Road Court for allegedly obtaining money by false pretence. This was after she was summoned by Uganda Police to record statements in her defence for the mentioned offence.

The Monday incident comes less than a month after Babirye was told to step down from office for a spell of three months. The directive made last moth by the Minister of Education and Sports and First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni came after the netball leader was accused of financial mismanagement and harassment, among others.

For the recent incident, Babirye is facing charges of obtaining UGX 16 Million by falsely pretending to take people to United States.

Babirye’s accusers include a mother; Sarah Wamala who claims she paid here UGX 8 Million to take her son overseas and Gloria Kikomeko Nantambi who says she also paid Babirye UGX 8 Million to take her to the same destination.

Babirye is jointly charged with a business woman Zainab Namutebi for offences committed in May 2022 in Kampala .

The duo pleaded not guilty to two counts of obtaining money by false pretences before Grade One magistrate Siena Owomugisha.

They have been remanded to prison until 17th May for purposes of hearing their bail application.
