Uganda is set to host the second ITF (International Tennis Federation) Pro Circuit at Lugogo Tennis Complex due May 6-25. This is part of the dividends following Uganda’s re-admission to ITF and Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) over a year ago.

Unlike last year’s championship that went for four weeks, this year’s edition will run for three weeks. Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) Chairperson Cedric Babu is optimistic that Uganda is ready to host the prestigious global tournament.

“We are ready to host the event; it is a big step for the sport growth and promotion in Uganda. After our re-admission back into ITF and CAT, we intend to spread the game of tennis at all levels,” Babu told the media during the launch of this year’s edition in Lugogo.

Over 60 international stars have entered the tournament including Russia’s Ivan Nedelko who won three of the four circuits last year as well as Italy’s Fabrizio Ornago who won one circuit.

Uganda Davis Cup team of David Oringa, Simon Ayella, Edward Birungi and Frank Tayebwa will get wild card entries to the main draw for the tournament that they will also use a build-up to the Davis Cup duel.

Uganda’s Gilbert Mugisha, Frank Nyago, Paul Ssekandi and Sebulime Swareh will get will get wild card entries to the main draw. The tournament is sponsored by NCS, Jibu Water, Spe Taxi Service, Speke Hotels, AAR and ITF.
